Glorious Creative

http://www.gloriouscreative.co.uk/

I decided to contact Glorious Creative because they do a lot of branding design which is something I have always been interested in. I also sent them a letter containing my CV and a covering letter explaining to them why I had contacted them.

Unfortunately they didnt get back to me and at this stage I wasnt confident enough or even bothered enough to try again. My loss I guess.

Bigfish

http://www.bigfish.co.uk/

I chose to contact Bigfish down in London because they specialised in packaging and branding which is something I found myself becoming interested in. They have worked for pretty big clients including GU Puds, Clippers, Waitrose and Harrods. I really love the range of clients they have worked with and also the work that they produce. I sent them a CV through the post with a covering letter but didnt get any response, so I sent them a follow up email.

Of which I still gain a response. At this point I actually gave up thinking I was just hassling them. I also kept thinking that they were a massive agency in London and im a student, why would they take the time to email me back, theyre far too busy.

Studios I have contacted

I have a list of quite a few studios who I have made contact with, of which some I have managed to arrange a studio visit. I did find it quite hard to contact studios at first as I didnt really have the confidence to just contact someone out of the blue and ask them a load of questions. After then realising that I would quite like a job after uni, I thought i'd better pluck up the courage!

I tried to approach them in a very friendly but kind of direct way. I didnt want to beat around the bush to much when it came to trying to sort out a visit. I first sent out letters and a CV to studios at the end of 2nd year which were rather cringy! I didnt really hear back from anyone, even after emailing them to follow the letter up.

These are the studios that I have contacted so far:

  • Robot Food Design
  • Bigfish
  • Everyday Something
  • A.N.D Aidan Nolan Design
  • The Archipelago
  • Glorious Creative
  • We are life
  • Analogue
  • Mash Creative
  • Boxhead
  • Brown Dog Design
  • We are unit
  • Toby Triumph
  • Studio Pikku

Major update

This is a major update post on where I am with PPD and what I need to do over the next few weeks. I've written a list of all the things I havent blogged, which I should have ages ago!

With the PPD assessed presentations coming up in a few weeks and me seriously behind with all this has made me realise I need to get my butt in gear!

Heres the list:

  • Write a list of the studios I have already contacted and why I contacted them. Have I heard back?
  • Write up studio visits
  • Robot Food Design
  • The Archipelago
  • A.N.D Aidan Nolan Design
  • Upload my portfolio as a PDF
  • Write up for portfolio surgery with Aidan Nolan, Mike at The Archipelago, Robot Food
  • Plans, what am I planning to do after uni
  • Do I know who I am yet as a designer?
  • Sort out my branding, which includes business card, CV, online portfolio and website
Plenty of stuff of be getting on with along with everything else. I am a bit annoyed with myself that I havent already blogged this stuff as it would have saved me a lot of time. I want to get a good grade for this as I have been making studio visits etc.

New sexy business cards!

I wanted my new business cards to come across very friendly and show off my personality as being easy going and easy to talk to. I came up with this idea of Hi there as in my part time job at Argos when im talking to a customer, this is how I greet them. It may sound a silly reason to do it but I always get told how friendly I am, so why not. I wanted the design to be kept really simple and easy to understand, so I simply have my name and my contact details.

I have made these now as I started to really hate my other designs and wanted something fresh for when I start to visit design studios and designers. I did have a few problems with how to place my contact details, but spoke to a few people in the class about it and we decided to go for the simplest one where all of the information was in lines under the bold text.

Behance praise

Hello,

I just wanted to message and say how much I love the Chocolot packaging you created! Really strong designs and colours.

I'm currently working on something similar (packaged chocolate) which I can send out to clients.

I hope you don't mind, but can I ask what the name of the company is who made your packaging for you? I have a company supplying the chocolate, but finding a good packaging company is my biggest issue right now.

Thank you so much, really appreciate your help,
Mandy

A message I received on Behance about a project of mine from OUGD301 :D made me very happy to think my work looks that professional!!!
